Appeal (protest): Předepsaný způsob, jak může hráč upozornit na situaci při hře, kdy byl ovlivněn nebo omezen ve hře. Provádí se pozvednutím ruky se znázorněným "L' - znamenajícím "Let, prosím.
Backhand: Úder hraný hráčem na straně těla s paží bez rakety (pravák vlevo a levák vpravo). Opak forhendu.
Board: Alternativní název pro tin - znělou desku pod dolní čarou čelní stěny kurtu.
Boast:Míček hraný obvykle ze zadní části kurtu se nejprve odrazí od postranní stěny dříve než se dotkne přední stěny. Varianty: a) boust o zadní stěnu (back-wall boast), b) třístěnný boust (trickle boast).
Bránění, překážení (interference): klíčový okamžik pro rozhodnutí rozhodčího přisoudit Let, No let, Stroke.
ČASQ: Česká asociace squashe, jediná organizace zastupující squashový sport v ČR a současně zastupující Českou republiku v mezinárodních squashových federacích.
Down: Pojem používaný pomocným rozhodčím, pokud se míč dotkne boardu (tinu).
Dropshot: Měkký úder, který je zahrán tak, aby míček dopadl u přední stěny, pokud možno v rohu a s malým odskokem od země.
Angle: Úder provedený v přední části kurtu směrem na bližší boční stěnu. Míček obvykle letí pod ostrým úhlem na čelní stěnu a nízko nad tinem, blízko rohu po ní sklouzne zpět do kurtu. Úder stejným způsobem, ale vedený ke vzdálenější boční stěně se jmenuje: Reverse-angle (opačný roh).
Eso: Podání, které přijímající hráč není schopen vrátit.
Fáze Úderu: 1. nápřah, 2. švih, 3. úder, 4. zášvih.
Hardball: Americký druh squashe hraný s tvrdším míčkem, pevnější raketou, na užším kurtu (0 30cm) a s počítáním v setu do 15 beze ztrát.
Striker (hráč): Při popisu situace na kurtu se jedná o osobu, která má (měla) hrát úder a to počínaje okamžikem odrazu míčku od čelní stěny, až po okamžik opětného dopadu míčku na čelní stěnu. Druhou osobu na kurtu v průběhu této doby označujeme "soupeř'.
Kill (zabiják - killing hit): Velmi tvrdě udeřený míček s velkým backspinem, který sklouzne po podlaze.
Klinger (clinger): V angličtině hovorový název pro míček, který letí velmi těsně podél boční stěny a je téměř nemožné jej vrátit útočným způsobem.
Crosscourt: Diagonální úder, který může být zahrán z každé pozice v kurtu směrem k opačnému zadnímu rohu. Důležitá je jeho "šířka'- to jest v příčné rovině soupeře by měl míček letět co nejblíže boční stěně nebo se jí dotknout.
Kurt: Viz příloha č.3 s rozměry a označením částí. Vlastnosti jsou dány přesnou směrnicí vydanou ČASQ v roce 1994 (viz použitá literatura).
Let: Opakování rety viz pravidla.
Lob: Míček zahraný vysoko přes protivníka do nejzadnější části kurtu. Může být zahrán paralelně (lobový longlajn) nebo diagonálně (kroskurtový lob).
Long line: Míček hraný podél (pokud možno co nejtěsněji) boční stěny zpět do zadní části kurtu.
Marker: Pomocný rozhodčí.
Match-ball: Zvolání rozhodčího, když podávající hráč může dosáhnout posledního bodu v zápase.
Mental turning (Myšlená otočka): Je stejný případ, ale hráč se za míčkem neotáčí okolo své osy. Míček proletí okolo těla na jedné straně a po odrazu od zadní stěny je zahrán ze strany druhé.
Nick: Roh mezi zdí a podlahou nebo mezi dvěma zdmi. Cílené zahrání míčku do niku patří mezi squashové dovednosti na nejvyšší úrovni.
Not-up: pojem používaný rozhodčím, když není míček dobře odehrán (např.: dvojí dotyk se zemí) nebo se nedostal do hry.
Otočka (turning): Pojem používaný v pravidlech. Míček letí k zadní stěně kurtu. Hráč se za ním otáčí a po odrazu míčku od zadní stěny ho hráč odehraje po opačné straně svého těla než původně mohl.
Pozice: Pojem používaný ve dvou různých významech: 1. Taktické postavení na T v průběhu hry.
2. Technické postavení těla a nohou pro odehrání konkrétního míčku (od otevřené po uzavřenou pozici).
PSA: Světová organizace profesionálních hráčů squashe (mužů - ženy jsou organizovány ve WISPA)
Racketball: Hra rozšířená v USA a Kanadě s pravidly podobnými squashi (nezaměňujte s hardballem).
Raketa: Základní náčiní, které při hře nesmí opustit ruku. Pro kvalitu odehrání míčku je rozhodující její poloha k ose příčné i k ose podélné.
Rely (rally - výměna): Nepřetržitá výměna míčků od podání po první chybu jednoho z hráčů (přerušení hry).
Return: Odehrání míčku soupeři.
Ricochet (rikočet): Hra vytvořená ze squashe a racketbalu za účelem komerčního využití. Hraje se v místnostech s nižším stropem a kratšími rozměry. Pravidla jsou obdobná. Ve snaze obejít ochrannou známku je tato hra někdy uváděna jako "Minisquash" (Pozor! Minisquash je také termín pro squash malých dětí s lehčími pálkami a molitanovým míčkem). Do začátku roku 1997 bez oficiální mezinárodní organizace. Anglický název je chráněn pro řadu druhů průmyslových produktů.
Servis Box: Plocha z níž je hráč povinen provést podání.
Set Ball (game-ball): Zvolání rozhodčího, když podávající hráč může dosáhnout závěrečného bodu v setu.
Slice: Míč zahraný se zpětnou rotací (backspinem), takže se neodrazí příliš vysoko nebo "sklouzne" po podlaze.
Soupeř (nonstriker): Protivník "hráče" viz definice pro výklad pravidel.
Squash: Je to raketový sport v uzavřeném prostoru s využitím stěn pro hru. Soupeří spolu dva hráči (v případě čtyřhry - dvě dvojice). Z hlediska energetického výdeje se jedná o nejintenzivnější raketovou hru. Cílem hry je dosáhnout předepsaného počtu bodů dříve než protihráči) - tři sety do devíti bodů (za stavu 8:8 hráč na přymu určuje, zda hra končí za stavu 9 nebo 10). Pouze podávající hráč může získat bod jinak, se jedná o "ztrátu" podání.
Soutěže: družstev v juniorské kategorii jsou sestaveny ze dvou zápasů dvouhry chlapců a jednoho zápasu dvouhry dívek. Soutěže družstev dospělých tvoří u mužů čtyři zápasy jednotlivců a u žen tři zápasy jednotlivkyň.
Strouk (stroke): Vítězný míček rely, aniž by byl zahrán - viz kap. č.l 2 Pravidla v otázkách a odpovědích.
Half time: Pojem, kterým naznačuje rozhodčí, že uplynula polovina času na rozcvičení hráčů před zápasem.
T prostor: Plocha okolo středu kurtu, charakteristická střetem čar (tvořících T) ohraničujících prostor pro dopad podání.
Tin: Plechová nebo dřevěná "rezonanční deska' přes celou šířku spodní části přední stěny (horní hranice jejího ukončení je ve výšce 48 cm nad podlahou).
Úder: Skládá se ze čtyř fází pohybu rakety - nápřah, švih, kontakt rakety s míčkem, zášvih. Volej: Úder hraný dříve než míček dopadne na zem.
WSF: World Squash Federation, dříve ISRF, jediná organizace zastupující zájmy squashe v ostatních mezinárodních sportovních federacích a koordinující squashové hnutí ve světě. Zkratka pro evropskou federaci je ESRF
Zpětná rotace míčku (back spin): Snižuje a zpomaluje odraz míčku od země.
Ztráta (hand-out): Pojem markera, který naznačuje, že podání přechází na protihráče.
